When to Call a Criminal Defence Lawyer
If any of the following has happened, the time to talk to a lawyer is now, not after the next court date.
- You have been arrested or detained. Even before formal charges are laid, what you say in the first hours shapes the entire file.
- Police want to interview you. Witness or suspect, the rules are different. Talk to a lawyer before you agree to an interview.
- You received an Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP). The 7-day window to apply for a RoadSafetyBC review is short. Learn about IRP defence.
- You have a first appearance at the Vernon Law Courts or Kelowna Law Courts. Most files at first appearance need disclosure before a defence position can be set. Julian appears regularly at both.
- You have been charged with impaired driving, assault, drug possession, or any other Criminal Code offence. Every file gets the same approach: review the disclosure, find the issues, build the defence.

What Happens After You Call
The first conversation is free, confidential, and without obligation. Julian reviews the basic facts of the situation, what you have been charged with or what police have said, and gives you an honest read on what you are facing and what your options are. If the file is one he can help with, he explains the next steps. If it is not, he tells you that too.
There is no high-pressure pitch. There is no rush to retain. Most clients who call walk away from the first conversation with a clearer head about their situation, even if they decide not to engage a lawyer at all.
Call now if you have a court date this week.
Files with imminent court dates get prioritized. Even if it’s late, leave a message – calls are returned the same day.
